Pregnancy back pain, taken seriously instead of waved off.

What causes back pain in pregnancy?
- Standing or walking for long stretches, especially later in the day.
- A job that keeps you on your feet, or one that keeps you in a chair.
- An older child who still wants carrying, usually on one hip.
- Sleep that has become a negotiation with pillows and positions.
- A low back that was already grumbling before the pregnancy started.
How does chiropractic care help in pregnancy?
- Gentle adjustments to the low back and pelvis, with positioning that works with a bump rather than around it.
- Soft-tissue work through the hips and low back that are carrying the change.
- Movement you can actually do, adjusted as the pregnancy goes on.
- Practical help with sleeping positions, sitting, and getting in and out of a car without bracing.
What does care cost, and do you take insurance?
- No referral needed to book a first visit.
- We go over the costs with you before anything begins, so you know what to expect.
- Clear, up-front pricing if you are paying out of pocket, with no packages you did not ask for.
Pregnancy questions we hear most
For most people with common, mechanical pregnancy back pain, gentle chiropractic care has a strong safety record, and care is adapted throughout: lighter force, pregnancy-appropriate positioning, and a plan that changes as you do. The first visit is a careful history and check before anything else. If anything suggests you should see your doctor or midwife first, we will tell you.
Comfortably, and this is the question we get asked most. Positioning is adapted as the pregnancy progresses so you are not lying flat on your front or your back when that stops being comfortable or advisable. If a position does not feel right, say so and we will change it. Nothing about this should involve gritting your teeth.
Any of them, and you do not have to wait until it is bad. Some people come early because they had back trouble before and want to stay ahead of it; more come in the second or third when the load really changes. Care is adapted to where you are either way.
No referral is needed to book with us. That said, we work alongside your maternity care rather than apart from it, and if you would feel better mentioning it to your doctor or midwife first, that is a good instinct and we would encourage it.
Change position often rather than holding any one for long, put a pillow between your knees on your side at night, and swap the long stand for a few shorter ones where you can. If you are carrying an older child, alternate hips. And if you have bleeding, regular cramping, fluid, or a drop in the baby's movement, that is your doctor or midwife now, not us.
