What we do

Functional Medicine, for when every test comes back normal and you still feel awful.

A root-cause approach in Allentown: proper testing, a full history, and a plan built around what is actually driving how you feel, rather than managing the symptom and hoping.

The short answer
Functional medicine asks a different question. Instead of naming the symptom and matching it to a prescription, it asks why the symptom is there at all, and looks upstream at digestion, blood sugar, thyroid, hormones, sleep, stress and nutrition. It leans on proper testing rather than guesswork, and the plan that comes out of it is usually food, sleep, movement and targeted support rather than something you take forever.
Most people who come to us for this have already been told they are fine. Bloodwork normal, nothing to report, come back if it gets worse. They are not fine, and they know it. Here is what this approach actually involves, who it suits, and what it cannot do.

What functional medicine actually is

It is a way of working, not a machine or a single protocol. The starting point is a long conversation: what changed, when it changed, what makes it better or worse, what you eat, how you sleep, what your stress actually looks like week to week. That history does more diagnostic work than most people expect, and it is the part conventional appointments rarely have time for.
From there we test rather than guess. Standard bloodwork is often read against a range wide enough to call almost anyone normal, so we look at where you sit within it and at markers that a routine panel skips. The point is to find something specific to work on, not to collect data.
Then the plan. It is usually unglamorous: what you eat and when, sleep, movement, and targeted nutritional support where testing justifies it. We review, re-test where it makes sense, and adjust. This is a process over months, not a single visit with an answer at the end of it.

Who it is for

  • Fatigue that sleep does not fix.
  • Digestive problems that have become normal to you.
  • Thyroid symptoms with results that keep coming back borderline.
  • Brain fog, low mood, or an energy crash at the same time every afternoon.
  • Hormone-related changes through perimenopause and beyond.
  • Anyone told their labs are normal who does not feel normal.

What it is not

It is not a replacement for your doctor, and we will not ask you to stop anything they have prescribed. That conversation is theirs and yours. It is not a diagnosis of disease, and it is not an alternative to urgent medical care: chest pain, sudden severe symptoms, or anything acute needs a physician, and we will say so and help you get there. It also is not a shortcut. If you are looking for something to take so nothing else has to change, this is the wrong door.

Why a chiropractic office

Because the same person is often in front of us for both reasons. Someone whose back keeps flaring is frequently also not sleeping, running on sugar and coffee, and carrying inflammation that makes every other thing slower to settle. Working on the structural side while ignoring all of that means fighting the same fire twice. The two sit together naturally.

Cost and insurance

  • No referral needed to book a first consultation.
  • We tell you what testing costs before anything is ordered, not after.
  • Clear pricing up front, with no program you did not agree to.
Functional medicine and the testing that goes with it are usually not covered by insurance, and we would rather you heard that from us at the start than discovered it later. We cannot promise a specific outcome. What we can promise is that we will tell you honestly if we do not think we are the right people for what you are dealing with.

Told your labs are normal?

Come and have the longer conversation. We will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Why patients choose this care

Time to hear the whole story

A proper history takes an hour, not seven minutes, and it is where most of the useful information actually is.

Testing, not guesswork

We look for something specific to work on rather than trying things and seeing what happens.

Honest about the limits

We will tell you when something belongs with your physician, and help you get there rather than keeping you.

What your care looks like

1

The long conversation

A full history: what changed and when, how you sleep and eat, and what your stress actually looks like.
2

Test where it matters

Targeted testing based on that history, with the cost explained before anything is ordered.
3

Build the plan

Food, sleep, movement and targeted support where the testing justifies it. Specific, and small enough to keep.
4

Review and adjust

A defined review point to look at what has changed, re-test where it makes sense, and change course if it is not working.

Questions we hear most

It is not in competition with your doctor. A physician is looking for disease that needs medical management, and is very good at that. This looks at the space before that, where you feel unwell but nothing has crossed a diagnostic threshold, and it has the appointment length to go through your history properly. Plenty of our patients keep seeing both, and that is the right arrangement.

It depends entirely on the history, which is why we do not publish a standard panel. It commonly starts with a fuller blood picture than a routine screen, and may include markers for thyroid, blood sugar, inflammation or digestion where your history points that way. Nothing gets ordered without explaining why we want it and what it costs.

Honestly, it varies, and anyone who gives you a number for this is guessing. Some people notice a difference in energy or digestion within a few weeks of changing the obvious things. Where something has been building for years, it takes longer. We set a review point at the start so there is a defined moment to look at whether this is working, rather than an open-ended commitment.

Usually something changes, yes. We try to make it the smallest set of changes that will actually move the needle, built around what you genuinely eat rather than an ideal nobody sustains. A plan you abandon in three weeks has helped nobody.
