The goal in treating patients is for them to feel better. This may seem like a ridiculous statement, but it is often a difficult goal to attain. Unlike traditional medicine whose only tool is a prescription, a chiropractor has many tools at hand to help patients feel better. Cold laser therapy is one of the many adjunct, viable, noninvasive, drug free options available for pain relief and healing.
Combining the theories of acupuncture with the science of low level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold lasers offers the patient with joint or muscle pain a gentle, drug free plan for pain relief. A handheld device, the laser is focused over the area to be treated by the clinician as the light permeates the skin to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. The interaction of the laser light with the cells in the injured area produces an increase in intercellular metabolism which in turn aids in the reduction of inflammation, pain and is said to decrease healing time.
LLLT has been shown to be most effective for the following conditions:
• Acute and chronic pain in the neck and back
• Muscle strain
• Soft tissue injuries
• Tennis elbow
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
