Plantar Fascitis

Plantar fasciitis is pain on the bottom of the foot.

Years ago I was taught an easy inexpensive solution for this. I have found this works in about 70% of the time. If your pain does not resolve in about 2-3 weeks you will need to get it evaluated. I have discovered a solution that helps when either the home treaemtn I am about to describe does not help or other therapies like inserts, podiatriss and other have not helped.

Before I describe the possible solution you need to understand why you develop this condition in the first place.

There is a tissue on the bottom of your foot called fascia. This tissue can take on two different characteristics. The first characteristic is what I refer to as rigid. This happens when the fascia is not warmed up. The second characteristic is what I call plastic. This happens when the tissue is warmed up.

When the fascia is not ‘warmed” up, it takes on the rigid characteristic, which is susceptible to damage. There is one time of the day that you will consistently have this tissue not warmed up. The time is when you first wake up in the morning. Your foot has been in a stationary position for many hours.

You climb out of bed, put you foot on the ground, and rip the cold fascia. This is the beginning of plantar fasciitis.

The easy way to help. Preparation is the key. Get yourself a pair of shoes with a 1 ˝ to 2 inch heel. Its better with opened back shoes. I have had patients take old shoes they are no longer using and cut the backs off. When you first get out of bed put your feet directly into these shoes. After walking around for 5-10 minutes your feet should be prepared to walk without the shoes.

It is important to note, this tissue takes a long time to heal. Most of the time your pain will be diminished or gone within a week or two. Keep up with the shoes for at least 8 weeks. All it takes is one time to forget to rerip the fascia and you will have to start all over again.
